Chinese Herbal Medicine Doctors
Chinese Herbology is one of the most widely used modalities in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It may be used in conjunction with other treatments like acupuncture, cupping, food therapy, or it can be used by itself.
Chinese herbs differ from nutritional supplements and pharmaceutical drugs as they address a Pattern Differentiation (TCM diagnosis made by your TCM Physician) and then over a period of time aim to correct this imbalance. You may take multiple formulas at once, or switch formulas throughout your herbal treatment. You will not be on these formulas life-long, as they aim to correct the imbalance and do not mask the symptoms.
When seeking Chinese Herbal treatments it is in your best interest to find a practitioner who is a NCCAOM Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (completed 4 national board exams, including Chinese Herbology) or a NCCAOM Certified Diplomate of Chinese Herbology (completed 3 national board exams including Chinese Herbology). Diplomates of Acupuncture and Diplomates of Asian Body Therapy have not had the proper training or testing to safely administer Chinese herbs. It is very important that patients are aware of the risks associated with purchasing herbs directly from vendors, these risks can include adverse drug interaction when using herbs without consultation and the potential of receiving inferior herbs from vendors. Diplomates of Oriental Medicine and Diplomats of Chinese Herbology have completed extensive training that would prevent the issues mentioned above from occurring.

Chinese herbs have been used as medicine for over 3,000 years and has three main functions:
- Address acute diseases and conditions, such as viral infections and injury.
- Heal Chronic illness such as GI disorders, immune system deficiency, night sweats, hot flashes, insomnia, and much more.
- Promote optimal health and wellness by maintaining the natural balance of the body.
