FAQS

DO YOU ADDRESS INDIVIDUALS WITH SEVERE HEALTH PROBLEMS OR CHRONIC ILLNESS?

During our consultation we will determine the magnitude of your ailments and come up with a practical treatment plan in order to manage, reduce and ultimately alleviate your health concerns. If we can not help you or if we feel you would be better suited receiving medical attention we can not provide, we will refer you. Your health and best interest is our highest priority.

CAN I SEE YOU IF I’M TERMINALLY ILL?

Yes. Balanced Healing isn’t only about an end-goal, it’s about the quality of life you experience on a day-to-day basis. Many modalities we use can enhance your overall well being mentally, physically and emotionally.

CAN CHILDREN BE TREATED?

Yes, we have many modalities in our office that can be used with children. I am flexible and can modify modalities to fit the needs of the child.

WHAT ARE NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE PRINCIPLES?

It is the discipline of using the body’s own healing systems to help guide you back to balance. It is an integrative approach to healthcare that blends conventional and alternative care models (supported by modern scientific evidence-based practice) to support the body’s healing process.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING A NATURAL HEALTH CONSULTATION THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM A CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE DOCTOR VISIT?

Because this is not a quick fix process a lot more time is spent with you during a consultation. You can expect that a lot of questions will be asked that may not necessarily have anything to do with the complaint/issue that brought you in for the consultation. The reason why so many additional questions are asked is to get a better picture of you as a whole because I take the whole person into account for each case in order to get to the root cause of the problem.

ARE LAB TESTS REQUIRED?

Part of getting to the root cause of the problem may include functional lab testing. The labs may not be the standard lab tests that your conventional medicine doctors have ordered for you. These labs take a more functional look at the body and its physiological systems. Not everyone needs labs but please note it is possible that labs will be a piece to your healthcare puzzle.

HOW ARE HEALTH GOALS SET & ACHIEVED?

The approach to recommended plans or protocols is highly individualized and works as a team effort. You and your provider work together to come up with a plan that is specific to you. I ask that you are just as dedicated as I am to your health as healing requires your willingness and participation.

WHO COULD BENEFIT FROM A NATURAL HEALTH CONSULTATION?

Everyone! Holistic care should be a part of any standard of care that you have in place for yourself and your health journey. It has a strong focus on preventive care so we encourage you to establish a relationship with a practitioner who can help support optimal wellbeing. Whether you’re looking to support your overall health or if you have a chronic condition that you’d like to address further, you’ve found the right place!

HOW LONG ARE OFFICE VISITS AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD I COME IN?

The initial consultation is 60 to 90 minutes long. Follow up visits are scheduled as 20 or 40 minutes sessions. The frequency of visits depends on the chronicity of the condition but remember… everyone is different!

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

Insurance is not accepted at this time. I am able to provide you with a super bill that you can then submit to your insurance company to attempt reimbursement.

DO I NEED TO BELIEVE IN ACUPUNCTURE FOR IT TO WORK?

Of course not! Acupuncture has been successfully used as treatment in babies, children, and animals- none of which “believed” or “didn’t believe”, they just experienced. You will be walked through each step and process of your treatment and answer any questions you may have along the way.

DOES ACUPUNCTURE HURT?

Typically acupuncture does not hurt. Some clients may experience sensations such as heaviness or a surge of “electricity” that immediately dissipates. These sensations are normal, they are Qi. The acupuncture needles are solid and very thin unlike hollow hypodermic needles that are much thicker and used for injections.

MY PHYSICAL THERAPIST/CHIROPRACTOR ADVERTISES THAT THEY PRACTICE ACUPUNCTURE TOO, ISN’T IT ALL THE SAME?

NCCAOM Diplomates of Oriental Medicine receive a minimum of 2,700 hours and up to 3,500 hours of required training in acupuncture, meridian theory, Chinese medicine, ethics, safety and clinical internship under supervision, as well as undergo rigorous National Board examinations in order to practice.

This is an alarming contrast with other medical professionals as Physical Therapists often times as little as 40 hours, Chiropractors are required to undergo a 100 hour course and other medical professionals only up to 300 hours.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE FOR ACUPUNCTURE OR CONTRAST HYDRO THERAPY SESSIONS?

  • Come with any questions you may have so they can be addressed before your treatment.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  • Make sure to eat something prior to your appointment.
  • Refrain from overexertion, drugs and alcohol prior to your visit.
