Hydrotherapy is defined as the use of water at different temperatures to create a therapeutic effect on the body.
Constitutional hydrotherapy is a type of hydrotherapy that combines alternating a hot and cold towel to the front and back of the torso along with physiological devices in order to directly affect tissue states, bring about balance to the organs, and systematically address pathways of digestion and detoxification.
The goal of this therapy is to normalize the quantity of blood circulating through a given area or tissue as well as to improve the overall quality of blood in the general circulation. With blood viewed as the vehicle conveying life to all cells, manipulation of circulation with this therapy maximizes the benefit of this process for overall health and restoration.
A constitutional hydrotherapy session is a 40 minute therapy session. Therapeutic goals enhanced by this therapy include: immune function, improve digestion, balance tone of autonomic nervous system, restore nervous equilibrium, clean and tonify blood, increase oxygenation of blood, and increase lymphatic circulation. In order to make the most of each session, it is essential that the therapy variables (temperature, timing, proper placement of towels, materials used to compress, and dampness) are individualized to the person. For this reason, it is best performed by a trained provider.
Conditions supported by this modality include:
-Immune Deficiency (environmental hypersensitivity, inflammation, etc.)
-Respiratory Tract (chronic asthma, bronchitis, etc.)
-Digestive Tract (GERD, irritable bowel syndrome, dyspepsia, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, etc.)
-Acute infections (cold, flu, lymphangitis, etc.)
-Reproductive Tract (PMS, dysmenorrhea, menstrual cramps, etc.)
-Circulatory System (varicose veins, mild hypertension, etc.)
-Athritis
-Obesity
And many more…..
